Abigail T. Costello LAc, LMT

Abigail Thomas Costello is a New York State licensed Acupuncturist and Massage Therapist. She is board certified in Oriental Medicine, including Chinese Herbal Medicine, by the NCCAOM. Her practice is specialized in women's health and pain management. She blends acupuncture, massage therapy and Chinese herbal medicine to provide holistic care for patients with a broad range of conditions.Abigail holds a Master's degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine from the Fingerlakes School of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (2006). She also holds a certification in Massage Therapy and Natural Therapeutics from the New Mexico School of Natural Therapeutics (1998) and a Bachelor of Science in Philosophy from the State University of New York at Oneonta (1996). Abigail is an instructor of Chinese herbal medicine and Oriental medical theory at FLSAOM. She has completed extensive post-graduate training in the areas of Chinese herbal medicine and women's health, including the Graduate Mentorship program at the White Pines School of Healing Arts (2009).

Because Oriental medicine represents a holistic system of healthcare, there are many other conditions that may improve with the use of acupuncture, massage and herbs. The care offered at this clinic is always intended to be used in addition to standard medical care and not as a replacement for it. Integrated healthcare is part of the mission and vision of this practice.

SPECIALS

Acupuncture

Acupuncture involves the insertion of tiny, sterile needles at selected acupoints throughout the body. The acupoints are chosen based on an assessment of the disease process, as well as a person's constitution, according to the methods of Traditional Chinese Medicine. Acupuncture is a safe procedure and is generally not painful. Patients may or may not be able to feel the needles as they are inserted. Once the needles are inserted, the patient is allowed to rest for about half an hour. Many people feel relaxed enough to fall asleep during thier treatments.

Medical Massage

Asian and Euopean massage techniques including Tuina, acupressure, myofascial and trigger point release are employed for the treatment of musculoskeletal pain and dysfunction as well as to promote relaxation.

Herbal Medicine

Chinese herbs offer internal support for healing from a wide array of conditions. They are used in formulas, rather than individually. It is neccessary to make a complete Chinese medical assessment in order to recommend Chinese herbal medicine. This differs from, and is not a replacement for, a standard (Western) medical diagnosis. Recommendations are based on classical formulations and modified for the individual patient.

Policies

Payment is due at the time of service by cash, check or credit card.Please allow 24 hours notice of cancellation to avoid charges.The office does not offer insurance billing services but will provide receipts to submit for reimbursement.The office will be closed for inclement weather whenever the Trumansburg School District is closed.
